Independent Exploration ( aka Free afternoon ;-))

Our ‘English and Adventure’ programme is pretty intense so once a week our students have a few free hours to take a breather and explore Jersey on their own.

Normally this free time falls on a Wednesday afternoon, a nice mid point during the stay so that students can recharge their batteries, have some fun independently and explore the island on their own terms.

Following English classes on a Wednesday morning our students are free to decide how they want to spend the afternoon. There’s plenty to do in Jersey but here’s an outline of some of the possibilities in case you want to plan ahead:

Jersey has a fantastic conservation zoo which has been working hard for many decades to prevent extinction and recover populations of threatened species. You can check out their website here: https://www.durrell.org/

The Jersey War Tunnels is a fantastic underground museum which was adapted from an underground hospital built during the second world war. History fans go take a look: https://www.jerseywartunnels.com/

Or if you’re into castles we’ve got two to choose from: Mont Orgeuil Castle ( Gorey)  https://www.jerseyheritage.org/visit/places-to-visit/mont-orgueil-castle/

or Elizabeth Castle

For a spot of souvenir shopping, a visit to St Helier is often the most popular choice where our students will find some different shops to the ones they are used to back at home. There’s also a cinema, bowling alley, and swimming pool with slides and a wave machine.

For the free afternoon, students will need a few pounds for the public bus and some spending money if they would like to go shopping for souvenirs.

We normally meet students in town or back at camp, or sometimes at the beach for an evening BBQ after the free afternoon. This will depend on the group and the weather.

Younger students are supported by Dave and Lady so they can benefit from the free afternoon with age appropriate support and supervision. Please feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Enjoy!

David and Lady 🙂
