Do I have to arrive in Jersey on a Sunday and depart on a Saturday?
Our weeks normally run from Sunday to Saturday to allow us time to prepare for the next students. We remain flexible to fit in with plane/boat schedules. Please do ask.
Who will pick me/my child up on arrival?
You will be met by David or your host family at the airport or ferry terminal, and taken to your home for the week.
What happens on the Sunday of arrival?
You will be met by David at the harbour and taken to the Adventure Camp to enjoy a nutritions evening meal before the start of lessons on Monday morning.
What is arranged for the evenings and weekends?
Adventure Camp accommodation includes weekend entertainment and activities if you are staying more than one week.
If I send my children to Jersey, how much supervision will they receive outside of English lesson and activity time?
This is arranged on an individual basis. We communicate with families and provide the necessary level of supervision for your child. If desired, children may spend the whole week under our supervision taking part in all of our family activities outside of the JLA programme. The JLA holiday programme for young learners is a busy programme and students normally have only one afternoon free to explore the island, or do some souvenir shopping.
Will my child have to take the bus in Jersey?
JLA has its own minibus but it is sometimes necessary for students to use the local bus service to get to and from a central meeting point. Younger students who are not used to travelling by public transport will be picked up and dropped off by David or their host family. We ask parents to budget for £15 per week for bus journeys, just in case.
How do students stay in contact with home?
Host family contact details are provided. You are welcome to call your child. David can always be contacted by telephone or email during the week.
What do I need to bring with me?
All lesson materials are provided, including text books, grammar reference books and dictionaries. You should bring a pen and A4 note book for your studies. For our activity programmes, all specialist equipment is provided, but you should bring swimwear and a pair of trainers or similar footwear for going in the water. A waterproof jacket and warm clothing is essential. Although Jersey has a lovely climate it does still rain at times!
For the Adventure Camp, all you need to bring is a sleeping bag and pillow case.
How much spending money will my child need?
Our course fees include everything apart from a little spending money for things like the cinema, ice creams, extra snacks and shopping!
Are special meals possible?
Meals at the Adventure Camp are tasty and nutritious and we aim to cater for any special dietary needs. Please just tell us your requirements.
Do I have to choose my activities before my arrival in Jersey?
Activities are arranged according to the weather and sea conditions, but we ask you to specify a preference on your reservation form so that we can try and fulfill your wishes.
